The balance came to $0.97, plus an additional $0.49, for a grand total of $1.46.  I spent all 4.00ECB and earne back a mere 1.00ECB.  However, I did locate an expired bag of peanuts (expired 12-02-2010) and received the California $2.00 Courtesy Coupon.  Unlike ECB, the Courtesy Coupon can be used with any CVS card and has no expiration date.
